Canberra trips are undoubtedly one of the highlights of the school calendar. The lifelong memories that are created with friends while learning about our nation’s capital are priceless.

Sadly, many students will have missed the opportunity to experience a trip that they have looked forward to for years as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
While you may not get the chance to visit Canberra’s many great sites this year, there are still ways to get involved. A number of Canberra’s attractions have put together online resources for students and teachers alike. Here are a few links to some of our favourites…

The Australian War Memorial team has assembled an awesome set of online resources to use in the classroom. There is a range of videos, modules and activities and to cater for different age groups. Their virtual excursions are also available to be booked through their website for Terms 3 and 4. This is a unique opportunity and is definitely worth checking out!

Questacon

The ‘Questacon at Home’ resources combine fun and learning in true Questacon style! Explore activities and videos to expand the mind and challenge students, whether in the classroom or from the comfort of your own home. You’ll also find instructions for exciting experiments such as making air cannons or creating slime. They have an online store where teachers or parents can purchase science kits, toys, puzzles and more.

Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House
Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD)

The Museum of Australian Democracy website has an extensive catalogue of online material for teachers and students to enjoy. The curriculum-based activities are wide ranging – including stories of Indigenous Rights and Freedoms, the history of Australian Prime Ministers and Australia’s Federation. There are videos, cartoons, quizzes and more to explore remotely until students are able to visit the MoAD again.
