Canberra & Sydney Excursion Sample Itinerary

What better way to add to your Canberra than a quick stop in the ‘Emerald City’! Being 3 hours apart makes Sydney the perfect gateway for your Canberra experience. Explore some of the sites of Sydney including the Opera House, Botanical Gardens, Centre Point Tower, Darling Harbour, The Rocks, Taronga Zoo, The Powerhouse Museum, or even a lunch cruise on the Harbour! A quick visit to this historic and high tempo city provides a great and exciting start to your next adventure awaiting in Canberra.

Day One

After months of preparation – you’re off!! Board your flight from QLD to Sydney and let the journey begin. Take in the beautiful Sydney with a walk through the from Mrs Macquarie’s Chair to the Opera House (don’t forget to take a group picture on the Opera House steps!). Continue to The Rocks for guided ‘Arrival of the First Fleet’ walking tour. Return to Circular Quay to board a ferry across the beautiful Sydney Harbour to Taronga Zoo. Here you will have time for lunch and a leisurely afternoon before you are picked up mid afternoon, by the coach for your trip to Canberra.

Day Two

PACER
Enjoy a delicious breakfast before heading into central Canberra for the first time. Visit the Australian War Memorial where you will undertake a guided tour to learn more around Australia’s role in WW1. Next stop is the Parliamentary Triangle where you will partake in educational programmes at both the Museum of Australian Democracy & National Electoral Education Centre. The final stop of the day is Parliament House where students will gain a better understanding of the political system before heading back to the accommodation.

Day Three

Begin the day with a visit to the Royal Australian Mint where you will learn about the role currency has played in Australia’s history and have the opportunity to make your own coin! Enjoy lunch by the Molongo River before exploring the impressive National Portrait Gallery & the High Court of Australia. There are many fantastic evening activities to keep your students engaged and visiting the “Q” (Questacon) is an absolute must!

Day Four

Start the day at the Australian Institute of Sport where an Olympian will take you on a guided tour of the impressive facilities. You will learn what it takes to become a champion at the home of Australian sporting excellence. With some inspiration in toe, head over to the National Arboretum for some lunchtime sport amidst a magnificent backdrop before finishing the day with a visit to the fascinating National Museum of Australia.

Day Five

Enjoy your final breakfast before checking out and heading to Canberra airport. On the way, say goodbye to Canberra up the Mt Ainslie Lookout for a panoramic view of Canberra’s unique layout. Reflect on an action packed (and hopefully not too chilly!) 5 days as you fly back to the Sunshine State.
